András Sándorffy: "Bread as a symbol of prosperity"

Our joint efforts contribute to the dynamic development of Kazakh-Hungarian integration in all spheres. In recent years, about 330 million dollars of Hungarian investments have been invested in Kazakhstan, of which almost a quarter was in 2021-2022. Trade turnover between our countries increased by 24%, and is expected to reach 1 billion dollars in the near future.

Hungary occupies an important place in Kazakhstan's trade and economic relations among the countries of the European Union, which emphasizes the importance of our cooperation for both countries.

Andras Sandorfi, representative of a Hungarian cereal and grain products company, is not in Kazakhstan for the first time and knows the entire production process in agribusiness. The Hungarian businessman shared his opinion that such meetings and negotiations provide a unique opportunity to strengthen practical business ties and expand cooperation in the agro-food sector between Kazakhstan and the countries of the European Union. Andras Sandorfi told our publication about his company and the prospects for partnership with Kazakhstan.

Qazaq Culture: What types of cereals and grains produced in Hungary do you consider most promising for export to Kazakhstan?

Andras Sandorfi: We come from Hungary, a country with 120 years of seed growing history. Kazakhstan is known for its agricultural potential, and its neighboring countries, with a total population of over 250 million people, also need quality food. It all starts with seeds. Hungarian seed producers strive for high quality wheat, which ensures a good harvest. In the face of climate change, such as the recent floods in Kazakhstan, sustainable genetic resources are important. Hungarian seeds can help Kazakhstan withstand environmental challenges and ensure stable yields.

Qazaq Culture: How do you see the adaptation of these products to the Kazakh market, taking into account local tastes and food traditions?

Andras Sandorfi: Before using seeds in new areas, of course, it is necessary to test them. In Kazakhstan, we are talking about 20 million hectares of grain crops. We previously tested Hungarian seeds in various regions of Kazakhstan for at least two years before we started selling them. The results of these tests allow us to adapt the seeds to local conditions and needs so that they meet the expectations of Kazakh farmers.

Qazaq Culture: What do you know about the cultural traditions and preferences between the Kazakh and Hungarian peoples?

Andras Sandorfi: Historically, Hungarians and Kazakhs have common roots, our peoples lived together in ancient times. We are proud of our traditions and common culture. For example, we have many common words that are used in both languages. Both peoples value bread not only as everyday food, but also as a symbol of prosperity. This cultural connection helps us to better understand each other and cooperate in the field of agriculture.

Qazaq Culture: What quality assurance and product safety measures do you apply at all stages of production?

Andras Sandorfi: Before selling seeds to Kazakh farmers, we conduct several stages of quality control. The Kazakhstan Institute carries out initial control, knowing our products and production conditions. The second stage is state control carried out by the Kazakhstan Institute. The third stage is certification and control by the official body of Kazakhstan, which certifies the quality and yield of seeds, ensuring high product standards.

Qazaq Culture: Do you plan to conduct information campaigns for Kazakh consumers and business partners about the benefits of Hungarian cereals and grains?

Andras Sandorfi: Yes, definitely, this is a natural process. We have already started deliveries and are conducting information campaigns. A large agricultural fair was held in Astana, where we presented our products. We publish informational articles to highlight the benefits of our seeds, and Kazakh suppliers actively advertise them among farmers.

Qazaq Culture: How would you briefly describe your product?

Andras Sandorfi: Without seeds there is no life. It all starts with sowing seeds, then comes the growing process, and finally, harvesting. Our products, such as small seeds, can contain hundreds or thousands of seeds depending on the cooking process. We ensure high quality and yield so that farmers can get the most out of their labor. And of course, enjoy their results, and therefore, life.

It should be recalled that for the first time, a high-level agro-food mission from the EU, headed by European Commissioner J. Wojciechowski, is visiting Kazakhstan from May 27 to 31, 2024.
