
Today, a meeting on the establishment of the University of Culture and Art was held in Shymkent, chaired by Aida Balayeva, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Culture and Information of the Republic of Kazakhstan. The project will be implemented under the instructions of President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, given to the Ministry of Culture and Information of the Republic of Kazakhstan and the Shymkent Akimat during a working visit to the city.
Participating in the meeting were Gabit Syzdykbekov, Akim of Shymkent, representatives of the Ministry of Culture and Information of the Republic of Kazakhstan, local executive bodies, contractors, and the M. Auezov South Kazakhstan Research University.
At the meeting, Aida Balayeva heard reports from participants on the progress of the large-scale project.
The new university will be established on the premises of the Faculty of Culture and Art of the M. Auezov South Kazakhstan Research University. The university is planned to comprise six faculties, 17 departments, and 46 undergraduate, graduate, and doctoral programs. The focus will be on training technical personnel in film and television, animation, media management, digital design, set design, and other fields.
Furthermore, for the first time in Kazakhstan, specialists with higher education in circus arts are planned to graduate. The training of restorers will also be a new focus.
During the meeting, the construction of a new opera and ballet theater in Shymkent was discussed. The city administration has already allocated a land plot with a total area of 2.8 hectares for this project. The project includes a 1,500-seat auditorium.
Currently, the city operates an opera and ballet theater in a building built in 1984, with a capacity of 330 seats.
