Filming of the movie "Gamer Girl" has been completed in the capital

This is a story about the deep inner conflict of the main character – Zhyldyz, a middle-aged Kazakh woman who faces the devastating consequences of her gambling addiction. In an attempt to control her life, Zhyldyz puts her career, family and personality on the line, but loses. In the process of rehabilitation, recognizing the problem becomes the first step towards rebirth – the heroine discovers the strength to begin the path to healing.

The project was inspired by the current social problem that has engulfed Kazakhstan: according to unofficial data, there are more than 500 thousand people in the country suffering from gambling addiction. The film's producers carefully researched this topic, studying dozens of real stories of people who have faced addiction. They held circles of revelations, where former gamblers shared their experiences, consultations with psychologists from rehabilitation centers to understand methods of dealing with this problem. All this formed the basis for creating the script and forming the characters.

Filming took place in winter and summer, and touched on several picturesque locations in Kazakhstan. Along with Astana, the film crew worked in beautiful places in the Akmola region, in the village of Burabay and the village of Urumkai. These natural decorations became a contrasting backdrop for the emotional drama, emphasizing the gap between the silence of nature and the inner suffering of the heroine.

The project was attended by more than 75 professionals with many years of experience in the film industry. Aldiyar Bairakimov became the director of the film, Azamat Zhanabekov became the director of photography. It should also be noted that headed by the new European actress of Kazakh origin Guzel Zhan, the film features a serious cast of recognizable and long-loved actors: Zhalgas Zhangazin, Bakhtiyar Kozha, Altynay Nogerbek, Leilo Beknazar, Zhan Baizhanbaev, Sayat Merekenov, Syrym Kashkabaev and others.

"The movie "Gamer Girl" is the embodiment of the stories of many real people. Almost three years have passed from the idea of the film to the final reel. At first, for more than a year, we carefully studied the problem of gambling addiction in Kazakhstan itself. Several active gamblers even took part in our research. But mostly, of course, we were helped by former addicts who were able to overcome the disease and today help others to do it. We sat in a circle and listened to complex, sad stories about how gambling addiction destroyed their lives. And then psychologists working with addicts explained to us why a person falls into this swamp and how you can get out of there. One person from our team even went through the initial stage of the rehabilitation program in order to understand the essence of the treatment from the inside. Plus, one of the authors of our script in the past had firsthand experience with addiction, which allowed us to more deeply and truthfully convey the atmosphere of rehab in the film. Since rehabilitation lasts at least six months, we needed to capture two seasons. Filming took place both in summer and winter, calendrically it took almost a year. Today, we have completed the post-production stage and are ready to show the film on the big screen soon," - said the general producer of the film Ardak Kasymbek.

The film is scheduled to premiere in the spring of 2025. The film will be available to viewers in cinemas in Kazakhstan. The film was created by the capital's film company PROTALENT commissioned by the Ministry of Culture and Information of the Republic of Kazakhstan, with the support of the State Center for Support of National Cinema, which emphasizes the social significance of the project. It is important to note that in July this year, the President of Kazakhstan signed a law aimed at combating gambling addiction, which makes the film particularly relevant.
