The Karaganda Academic Musical Comedy Theater opened its 54th season with Imre Kalmán's operetta "The Circus Princess." The performance took place on the main stage of the Miners' Palace of Culture.
The operetta returns to the theater's repertoire in a renewed staging. The production centers on the love story of the young widow Theodora and the mysterious circus performer Mister X. The theater began the new season with a work that combines music, drama, humor, and the atmosphere of classic European operetta.
One of the notable highlights of the performance was the participation of Russian theater and film actor Igor Pismenny. On the Karaganda stage, he played the role of Pelican, a comical and resourceful maitre d' who helps the characters find personal happiness.
The guest artist's partners were actors from the Karaganda Academic Musical Comedy Theater. Daria Piven played the role of the hotel-restaurant owner, Carolina, and Andrey Pankin portrayed her son, Tony. The main characters, Theodora and Mister X, were played by Elena Fedorova and Denis Kudryashov.
The production was directed by Evgenia Permyakova.
For the theater, opening the season with "The Circus Princess" not only marked the return of a well-known work but also an opportunity to present a renewed version of the play, preserving its musical charm, lightness, and onstage energy.
