Kazakh literature is read in 125 countries around the world.

The works of Kazakh writers are read far beyond Kazakhstan's borders – from Europe and the United States to China and the Middle East. Today, national literature is confidently expanding its presence on the global stage. Works by Kazakh authors are translated into dozens of languages, published abroad, and presented in leading libraries and universities worldwide, while Kazakh classics and contemporary prose are finding new readers far beyond the country's borders.

For example, anthologies of contemporary Kazakh poetry and prose have been published in the six official languages of the UN – English, Arabic, Spanish, Chinese, Russian, and French. 120,000 copies have been distributed to more than 23,000 libraries, higher education institutions, and research centers in over 90 countries.

In recent years, the geography of translations of individual works has also expanded. Smagul Elubay’s novel “Ak boz uy” was published in Spanish, “Daraboz” by Kabdesh Zhumadilov, “Ushkan uya” by Bauyrzhan Momyshuly and “Mahabbat, kyzyk mol zhyldar” by Azilkhan Nurshaikhov – in English, “Kargyn” by Dulat Isabekov – in French. The works of Mukhtar Auezov “Kokserek” and Ilyas Yesenberlin “Aikas” have been translated into Chinese, and the story of Berdibek Sokpakbaev “Menin atym Kozha” has been translated into French. Previously, the work was also published in English, German, Russian, Uzbek and other languages.
Foreign audiences continue to enjoy stable interest in the classics. Among the most famous works are Mukhtar Auezov's epic novel "The Path of Abai," Abai Qunanbayuly's "Words of Edification," and Ilyas Yesenberlin's historical trilogy "Nomads."
Furthermore, domestic publishers annually participate in the Frankfurter Buchmesse, Bologna Children's Book Fair, Abu Dhabi International Book Fair, Beijing International Book Fair, and The London Book Fair. Last year, Kazakhstan presented 137 new titles at the Frankfurt Book Fair, 24 at the Bologna Children's Book Fair, and 27 new publications at the Abu Dhabi Book Fair.
Particular attention is paid to modern formats for promoting classical heritage. Gulmira Amandykova's adapted version of Abai Kunanbayuly's "Words of Edification: A Testament to Descendants" was named "Book of the Year" at the national "Ulttyk Book" competition. The book was published in Kazakh, Russian, and English, and the project as a whole has already covered 12 languages. The publication was presented at international book fairs in Frankfurt, Delhi, and Guangzhou, and was donated to the UNESCO library.
Kazakhstani books are also receiving recognition at international competitions. In 2025, the publication "Zhoshy Khan. Uly Ulystyn Aemіrshіsі" won the Grand Prix at the "Art of the Book" competition in Baku.
Libraries and digital resources are becoming another channel for promoting national literature. Regular readers of the National Library of the Republic of Kazakhstan include citizens of India, China, the United States, Turkey, Germany, Japan, France, the United Kingdom, and other countries.
The resources of the National Academic Library are used by readers from 120 countries, and the Kazakhstan National Electronic Library is visited by users from 125 countries. Kazakh literature, the history of Kazakhstan, studies of the Turkic world, and rare publications are of particular interest to international audiences.
Furthermore, a network of Kazakh literature centers is also developing abroad. Today, they operate in the national libraries of 41 countries, including Hungary, Turkey, China, France, Japan, the United States, Italy, Finland, and Brazil. Their collections are regularly replenished with new Kazakh publications.
