As part of the 90th anniversary of the Zhambyl Philharmonic Hall, with the support of the Tolepbergen Abdyrashev State Academic Symphony Orchestra of the Republic of Kazakhstan, the XX25 festival was held in Almaty.
The main goal of the event is to connect the past and the present through the staging of symphonic works of the 20th century and the works of contemporary composers, to reconcile the artistic ideas of that era with today.
The festival is held for the second time. This year's feature was that talented young Kazakh musicians who were educated in foreign universities and are now performing on the stages of near and far abroad returned to their homeland to present their art to their compatriots.
The festival opened on June 6 with a concert accompanied by the State Academic Symphony Orchestra of the Republic of Kazakhstan with the participation of Meruert Karmenova, a talented violinist and international competition winner invited from Belgium. On June 13, the festival continued with a concert by international competition winners, pianists Botagoz Aigalkaeva and Aliyar Otetleu.
The festival closed with a performance by one of the most outstanding young violinists of our time from Spain, an international musician Yerzhan Kulibaev, representing Kazakhstan on world stages. The festival featured a number of complex and meaningful works that were highly appreciated in world musical art.
In particular, the symphony orchestra performed D. Shostakovich's Symphony No. 5, F. Poulenc's Concerto for Two Pianos and Orchestra, and Karol Szymanowski's Concerto for Violin and Orchestra No. 1 for the first time in Kazakhstan.
