The 58th theatrical season of the State Academic Dance Theatre of the Republic of Kazakhstan is rich in premieres. Today, the artists performed on the historic stage of the Kazakh National Opera and Ballet Theatre in Almaty, presenting the audience with the production “What Ballet Is Silent About.”
The performance opens the curtain to the backstage world of great art, allowing viewers to see ballet from an unexpected, sincere, and vivid perspective. The premiere was a sold-out event, receiving enthusiastic reviews from both the audience and theatre critics.
The production reveals not only the dancers’ artistic mastery but also their behind-the-scenes lives — their human relationships, emotions, and inner experiences. The performance allows the artists to express themselves without words and to show the audience what lies behind the outward beauty and perfection.
The choreographer of the production, Oleg Ignatyev, who grew up in the ballet world and knows the inner workings of the theatre intimately, interprets the backstage reality as the real life of ballet dancers — shown without embellishment.
At the heart of the performance lies the immortal music of Pyotr Tchaikovsky, seamlessly woven into the choreography, where classical elements blend with neoclassical and contemporary forms, filling the show with dynamism, freshness, and expressiveness.
The production transcends genre boundaries, combining elements of tragedy, comedy, grotesque, and documentary-style honesty. For the theatre’s troupe, this premiere has become a breath of fresh air, opening new horizons for creative exploration and rethinking familiar stage forms.
