The A. Kasteyev National Museum of Arts of the Republic of Kazakhstan unveiled its renovated "ART Laboratory" art studio, where approximately 3,000 children and adults can engage in creative activities annually.
The event was attended by Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Culture and Information of the Republic of Kazakhstan Aida Balayeva, Chairman of the Board of JSC Samruk-Kazyna Nurlan Zhakupov, Director of the A. Kasteyev National Museum of Arts of the Republic of Kazakhstan Gulaim Zhumabekova, Kazakhstani cultural and artistic figures, and masters and students of the museum's art studio.
"ART Laboratory" is a creative and educational project of the National Museum of Arts of the Republic of Kazakhstan, implemented since 2007 as part of museum education. Its main goal is to develop an interest in the visual arts among children, adolescents, young adults, and adults, and to unlock their creative potential. Under the guidance of professional artist-teachers, classes are held in academic drawing, painting, composition, graphics, decorative and applied arts, and creative exploration. Over 10,000 children and adolescents have completed the training. The studio also systematically implements creative programs for children with special educational needs, developing the principles of inclusive museum education.
At the presentation of the updated project, Aida Balayeva noted that state support for the development of the arts, engaging young people in creativity, and creating conditions for their development are among the most important priorities of cultural policy.
"The head of state pays special attention to the cultural sector. Thanks to consistent state policy in supporting the industry, we are seeing concrete results today. In 2025, the status of "National" was awarded to the Central State Museum of the Republic of Kazakhstan and the Abylkhan Kasteyev State Museum of Arts, and in 2026 to the National Museum. Furthermore, at the President's direction, last year the Samruk-Kazyna Foundation carried out extensive renovations at the Kasteyev Museum. Another important decision was the establishment of the honorary title "Kazakhstan's Artist of Kazakhstan." This is a high assessment of the role of national fine art and a well-deserved recognition of the long-term work of artists who are dedicated to their craft. Taking this opportunity, on behalf of all representatives of the cultural sphere and myself, I express my sincere gratitude to the Head of State for his continued support of the industry," said the Deputy Prime Minister.
As a result of the project, supported by the Samruk-Kazyna Foundation, the museum's creative space was renovated. Over 110 square meters of laboratory space are now equipped for painting, graphic arts, and decorative and applied arts. Furthermore, a special photography space, equipped with modern photographic equipment, has been created in the studio for the presentation of creative works. This will allow students to professionally present their work and widely showcase their creative achievements in a digital environment. Master classes, workshops, and plein air events will be held here for children and teenagers aged 5 to 17.
"I am confident that the Art Lab will become a magnet for young talent and provide them with new opportunities for development and creativity. For Samruk-Kazyna, supporting culture is an investment in preserving our heritage and developing a modern cultural environment," said Nurlan Zhakupov.
The studio places special emphasis on supporting creatively gifted children and young people, helping them find their professional identity. The studio prepares talented students for admission to higher and secondary specialized art schools, fostering their creative potential and developing their future artists.
The museum's digital portal was also presented to guests during the event. It has become more convenient and inclusive: visitors can explore the collection and exhibitions online, and a 3D tour allows them to take a virtual stroll through the museum spaces and see the exhibits regardless of their location.
