The contemporary ballet "Bolero X" will be presented for the first time at the Astana Ballet

The Astana Ballet Theatre will present the premiere of the contemporary ballet "Bolero X" – a radical choreographic interpretation of Maurice Ravel's legendary music, staged by Israeli choreographer Shahar Binyamini.
This is not an illustration of "Bolero," but a sculptural reimagining of it: the hypnotic rhythm and increasing tension are transformed into a stage performance where collective energy plays a central role. At the center of the performance is an ensemble of 50 dancers. Instead of the traditional soloist, the choreographer constructs a "single organism" from repeating structures, waves of movement, and constantly changing group dynamics. This explores themes of unity, collective identity, and dialogue between the individual and the group.
The letter "X" symbolizes the point of intersection – the meeting point of past and present, music and movement, the individual and the collective. The production has received international acclaim, toured major stages in Europe, North America, and Asia, was staged for leading companies, including Ballet BC, and was produced in collaboration with the Tanz Akademie Zürich.
The premiere performances will take place on March 27-28, accompanied by the Astana Ballet Theatre Symphony Orchestra under the baton of Principal Conductor Arman Urazgaliyev.
