World Portuguese Language Day at the National Academic Library of the Republic of Kazakhstan

World Portuguese Language Day at the National Academic Library of the Republic of Kazakhstan

The aim of the event was to increase interest in learning foreign languages and foreign literature, as well as to promote reading among library visitors. On this day, the Embassy of the Portuguese Republic, through the "Instituto Diplomático", solemnly handed over new books in Kazakh, Russian and Portuguese to the corner of Portuguese literature. These publications reflect the culture, history, traditions and modern development of Portuguese-speaking countries. The collection was replenished with 30 new copies, including historical, popular science, biographical books and children's literature, provided by the Parliament of Portugal.

"These books will now be in the library's collection and will allow readers to immerse themselves in the vast world of Portuguese-language literature, making it closer and more accessible. Portuguese is one of the five most spoken languages in the world. We sincerely hope that the works of such authors as Camões, Vinicius de Moraes, Mia Couto, Luís Cardoso, José Luandino Vieira, Ondjaki and Paulina Chiziane will please readers," said José Ataide Amaral, Chargé d'Affaires ad interim of the Portuguese Embassy.

The solemn event was attended by the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Brazil Rubem Antonio Corre Barbosa, Chargé d'Affaires ad interim of Portugal José Ataide Amaral, Ambassador of Serbia Vladimir Jovicic, representatives of the Embassies of India, Turkey, Hungary, as well as the scientific and creative intelligentsia of Kazakhstan, students, undergraduates and library readers.

This day became an important milestone in the cultural life of the library, contributing to the strengthening of cultural ties between countries and the expansion of readers' horizons.
