Astana Opera Theatre Artists Win International Competition in China

Astana Opera artists returned from China with a victory: leading soloist Dias Kurmangazy and soloist, young choreographer Sultanbek Gumar received awards at the First International Ballet Competition in Liaoning (Shenyang).
The competition brought together more than 400 participants from 10 countries, the jury included 20 recognized masters of the world stage. Dias Kurmangazy was awarded the prize for the best performance, and Sultanbek Gumar - for the best choreography.
On the Shenyang stage, Dias Kurmangazy, together with his partner Kamila Shakhmanova, performed fragments from The Nutcracker by P. Tchaikovsky, The Talisman by R. Drigo and the number Ansau staged by Sultanbek Gumar. The latter became a real highlight of the program - the jury noted the originality of the plastic solution, musicality and contrast with the similar numbers of other contestants. Honored Worker of Kazakhstan, teacher-repetiteur Rustem Seitbekov worked with the artists on the classical numbers.
The musical basis was the eponymous composition of the ethno-folklore group "Khassak". According to the choreographer, it was this music that gave a powerful impetus to the birth of the production in a short time.
These awards became an important contribution to the international authority of the Kazakhstani ballet school. For the Astana Opera theater, participation in such competitions is an opportunity to demonstrate a high level of training, establish creative ties with leading representatives of the world ballet and inspire a new generation of dancers in Kazakhstan.
