The "Steppe Symphony" exhibition, dedicated to the 100th anniversary of the birth of People's Artist of Kazakhstan Sakha Romanov, opened at the Abylkhan Kasteyev National Museum of Arts of the Republic of Kazakhstan. A roundtable discussion on the artist's creative legacy was held as part of the opening ceremony.
Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Culture and Information of the Republic of Kazakhstan Aida Balayeva sent a congratulatory address to the exhibition participants. It noted Sakha Romanov's contribution to the development of Kazakh fine art, national painting, and graphic arts.
"Sakha Romanov is an outstanding artist who expanded the artistic horizons of Kazakh fine art and shaped a distinctive signature style in national painting and graphic arts. I believe the "Steppe Symphony" exhibition is an important cultural event that will allow us to reexamine the artist's rich legacy, appreciate the scope of his creative endeavors, and present it to future generations," the congratulatory address stated.
The exhibition features works from the museum's collection and the artist's family collection, including "The Shepherd's Family," "The Decree on Land," "Under the Sky of the Motherland," and "Liberation from Chains."
Sakhi Romanov worked in painting, graphic arts, and film. In 1955, he graduated from the All-Union State Institute of Cinematography and began working at the Kazakhfilm studio. He contributed to the films "The Road of Life," "The Beardless Deceiver," "Wings of Song," and "Kulager."
In 1967, Sakhi Romanov was awarded the title of Honored Artist of the Kazakh SSR, and in 1981, People's Artist of the Kazakh SSR. The exhibition explores the main stages of his career and his contribution to the development of national art.
