Photographs, archival documents, personal belongings of Mirzhakyp Dulatov and members of his family are presented at the National Museum of the Republic of Kazakhstan. The exhibition "Қазақ рухын оятқан тұлға" was dedicated to the 140th anniversary of the public figure, one of the leaders of the Alash movement. Relics provided by his descendants were brought to Astana for the first time. The exposition introduces visitors to the family of Mirzhakyp Dulatov – his wife Gainizhamal, son Alibek and daughter Gulnar.
"Almost all the exhibits here are originals and are presented by our family. We had a chest where such valuable things were stored. Our mother kept them (Gulnar Mirzhakypkyzy Dulatova – ed. note). She aired them several times a year, dried them in the sun, and froze them during severe frosts. For example, this fur coat (belonging to Mirzhakyp Dulatov - ed. note) – is a work of art. It is made of foal wool and is very interestingly designed. If you look at the sleeve, it is one mane. The back – is already another mane. It is amazing how whole skins were used. A garment bag is also presented here at the exhibition. Clothes were placed here and then it was closed like an envelope. Most likely, it is of German or French origin. Waterproof, very valuable for that time," – said Yerlan Satybaldiyev, grandson of Mirzhakyp Dulatov.
Gulnar Dulatova was only 12 years old when her father was arrested, but she collected all the heritage and kept it a secret. Having lived her entire conscious life with the stigma of the daughter of an "enemy of the people", she had no doubt that justice would prevail and Mirzhakyp Dulatov would be rehabilitated. She released a five-volume collection of her father's works and three books of her memoirs. The exhibition features costumes and a typewriter belonging to Gulnar Dulatova.
"A dress made by the author is also presented here, as well as a camisole. My mother appeared in this camisole at the Decade of Kazakh Art in Moscow in 1959. Cups, a coffee pot, a samovar, – all these things have been familiar to me since childhood. For example, there was a telephone on this nightstand (Nightstand from the dowry of Gainizhamal, wife of M. Dulatov – ed. note)," – shared Yerlan Satybaldiyev.
For the first time, the 1914 collection of the Lazarev Institute of Oriental Languages was shown to a wide audience. Among the Kazakh writers, it features only two authors – Abai Kunanbayev and Mirzhakyp Dulatov. The book contains prose translations of poetic works. The works of Nukha Ramazanova and Satyglan Sabataev are considered the first translations of the works of Abai and Mirzhakyp into Russian.
"Our family has another copy of this book – personalized. There is blind embossing on the spine, and the writer's name was written. A personal copy was specially made for the author at that time. The binding of both books is made of genuine leather. Unfortunately, we cannot reveal, show it. It is interesting that I found this book, exhibited here, in a second-hand bookstore relatively recently," –said Yerlan Satybaldiyev.
Of particular interest is the photograph of Mirzhakyp Dulatov taken in 1909, which was exhibited for the first time. It shows the public figure at a wedding. To the right of Mirzhakyp Dulatov in the photo sits another guest of the celebration - Akhmetvali Menger, - a well-known businessman who for many years headed the Turkish representative offices of Mercedes-Benz and Bosch. Previously, only a fragment of the photograph was published. Its full version was found thanks to Menger's great-niece.
"The relatives who kept this photograph, they knew almost everyone. And where Mirzhakyp Dulatov was, they had a note "unknown". And then, thanks to Menger's great-niece, this photograph was found. Previously, a fragment was published where only Dulatov and Menger were, and there were no comments on it. Currently, we know these people by name," - said Yerlan Satybaldiyev.
The exhibition reveals new, little-known aspects of the personality of Mirzhakyp Dulatov. It takes the visitor to a warm, family atmosphere, destroyed by the arrest in 1928.
