10 books that unite generations: what Kazakhstani families read

A reading culture is steadily developing in Kazakhstan, including the tradition of shared family reading. This format helps strengthen ties between generations, foster children's interest in literature, and create a space for discussing shared values.
Based on the results of the first half of 2026, 10 works were identified that are equally interesting to members of different generations. The results were compiled based on data from three national and 17 regional libraries.
Thus, Bauyrzhan Momyshuly's "Ushqan Uya" emerged as the top book for family reading. It was recognized by 13 libraries—the highest number of all the works submitted. "Ushqan Uya" speaks about family, upbringing, respect for elders, national traditions, and spiritual values. This is why the book remains relatable and accessible to members of different generations.
