"Altyn Ghasyr": A Unique Project by the HAS SANAT Gallery Celebrates Its 19th Anniversary

The capital's art gallery "HAS SANAT" presented a traveling exhibition of artists from Kazakhstan "Altyn Gasyr", which turned 19 this year. The project with a rich history introduced residents of foreign countries to the art and culture of Kazakhstan. The works of domestic masters are dedicated to the magnetism of the steppe, the beauty of Kazakh women and the special philosophy of the descendants of nomads.

“With the acquisition of independence, the time has come when artists can write as they want. No one forces them to write socialist realism - rural workers. The name "Altyn Gasyr" ("Golden Age") means a period when you can create, there is freedom of expression. This exhibition has made a wonderful impression all over the world. I received such good reviews because there are worthy artists and paintings,”  said Zhanna Ensebayeva, director of the HAS SANAT gallery.

The project was launched in 2006 in Moscow at the Central Exhibition Hall "Manege". Then the paintings were presented at the State Museum of Oriental Art, in the Central House of Artists on Krymsky Val and were a great success. In June 2007, the exhibition continued its journey and was presented in the capitals of more than ten countries of the Eurasian space.

“Now everything that hangs here is already the history of fine art in Kazakhstan. Many years have passed, and I have already forgotten that I participated in this project. I am very happy because art will never disappear, manuscripts do not burn, paintings do not leave people's memory,” – noted artist Leila Makhat.

The traveling exhibition "Altyn Gasyr" has visited more than 40 cities. It was seen by residents of Warsaw, Wroclaw, Berlin, Stuttgart, Munich, Frankfurt, Amsterdam, Vienna, Seoul, Tehran, Ankara, Istanbul, etc. At each stage, the exhibition was supported by embassies and diplomatic missions of the Republic of Kazakhstan abroad.

“The project is very successful, especially the exhibition in Istanbul, I remember. Many paintings were sold then. It should be noted that this is one of the leading galleries in Kazakhstan. I remember the times when it was just opening. Then Zhannochka gathered us. And she managed to reveal our art to the world, to convey the meaning that we put into creativity. We need more art critics like this who would reveal the essence of our artistic activity. After all, artists sit in the workshop, they need to be pulled out and shown to the world,” – noted artist Amandos Akanaev.

The exposition is especially proud of the works of the deceased famous artists Abdrashit Sadykhanov, Bakhyt Bapishev and Kabdyl-Galym Karzhassov. If Askhat Denikeev's magnificent works "Struggle" and "Return to the Motherland" resemble carpet weaving, then the paintings of landscape painters Yerlan Aituarov "Khan Tengri", Mazhit Baitenov "Tabun" and "Bull" - the harsh steppe and mountain beauty that they see in their own way.

“This exhibition does not lose its strength and relevance from year to year. We remember and honor our comrades - Karzhassov, Sadykhanov. They are no longer with us, but we continue to admire their work and their work lives on. My personal exhibition was also held in this chamber, cozy gallery. There is a special, warm aura here,”- noted artist Mazhit Baitenov.

The international project "Altyn Gasyr" plays an important role in strengthening the ties of Kazakh artists with specialists in the field of culture and art from other countries. The works of the masters invariably evoke vivid emotions and feelings of involvement in the authentic and eternal.
